We’re currently in that awkward transition period in the Tetons where skiing no longer makes much sense, but high snow levels still limit how high you can comfortably hike.

Thankfully, the greater Teton area has a huge variety of mountain ranges that receive very different snow totals throughout the year. Some of the first ranges to melt out are Hoback Canyon and the Snake River Range.

I proposed the idea to Charlie that we head up Red Creek. I wanted to show him some ski lines for next winter, and it also seemed like a good opportunity to get up Red Peak without any issues.

The night before, we had an awesome time camping with Deanna and Olivia at Wolf Creek Campground. We hung out alone in the canyon beside a crackling fire late into the evening.

We woke early, and I spent forty-five minutes making coffee for everyone while Charlie wolfed down three sausages. I was slightly envious as I sat there eating a bowl of cold oats.

Off we went, while Deanna followed behind with Luca at a more casual pace.

The trail through this zone is much appreciated because Red Creek can get incredibly bushy. We wasted no time gaining elevation and reached the summit a little over two hours after leaving the car.

The summit views are fantastic and I looked deep into the range, envisioning the myriad of adventure possibilities.

I was surprised when we ran into Deanna only about 1,200 feet below the summit — with Luca still going strong!

We all hiked back down together, enjoying the solitude of the Snake River Range.

Happy days...
